Colonel Louis
J. Piantadosi, USMC (Retired), of Whitehouse Station, NJ, passed away
peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy of distinguished military service,
and dedication to his family and community. He had resided in Whitehouse
Station for the past two and a half years, having previously made his home in
Woodbridge, Virginia.
Born in Bound
Brook, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Pellegrino and Mary Piantadosi. A
graduate of Bound Brook High School, Colonel Piantadosi continued his education
at Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
In 1954, he
began an extraordinary 32-year career with the United States Marine Corps.
Throughout his military service, he served his country with honor and rose
steadily through the ranks, earning promotion to Colonel in 1977. Upon his
retirement in 1985, he had established a remarkable record of leadership,
courage, and commitment to the Corps.
In recognition
of his exemplary service, Colonel Piantadosi received numerous military
decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V," the
Defense Superior Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint
Service Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one star,
the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a
longtime member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Woodbridge,
Virginia. Following his retirement from
active duty, Colonel Piantadosi remained devoted to his fellow veterans and
Marines. He was an active member of the
American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, along with the Marine Corps
Law Enforcement Foundation, where he played a major role in numerous
Scholarship Galas including Atlantic City, New York, Philadelphia, and
Washington, D.C.
Colonel
Piantadosi will be remembered as a proud Marine, respected leader, and a man of
integrity whose life exemplified the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and
commitment.
He was
predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean in 1998 and his two sisters, Rosemarie
Conover and Lena Gentile.
He is survived
by his devoted son, Brian Piantadosi and his wife, Michele Renda of Whitehouse
Station; his granddaughter, Tessa Piantadosi and her husband, Even Lick; and
his three great grandchildren, Amelia, Henry and Jonathan.
